Pass the manual on to whomsoever might acquire the appliance at a later date. -1- RADIO KH2352 Intended Use This device is intended for the reception of FM/ AM radio transmissions as well as for the playback of audio signals from external devices. This device is intended for use only in domestic environments. It is not suitable for use in commercial or industrial applications. Notice The technical data of the device makes possible an adjustable frequency range from 87,5 - 108 MHz resp. 522 ­ 1620 kHz. In some countries, different national regulations may apply to the assigned radio frequency ranges. Please note that information received outside of the assigned radio frequency ranges may not be exploited, passed on to third parties or otherwise misused. Safety information · This device is not intended for use by individuals (including children) with restricted physical, physiological or intellectual abilities or deficiences in experience and/or knowledge unless they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety or receive from this person instruction in how the device is to be used. · Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the device. · Keep batteries well away from children. Ensure that the rating of the local power supply tallies completely with the details given on the rating plate of the device. · Ensure that the power cable never becomes wet or damp during operation. NEVER submerse the device in water. Wipe it only with a slightly damp cloth. · Ensure that liquids or foreign objects are never able to penetrate into the device. · Do not place water-filled receptacles (e.g. flower vases) on the device. · Position the device close to an electrical power socket. Ensure that the wall socket is easily accessible at all times. · To avoid the risks of tripping, do not use an extension cable. In the event of danger, the plug must be quickly and easily accessible. · Do not open the housing or attempt to repair the device yourself. Should you do so, device safety can no longer be assured and the warranty will become void. Repairs are to be carried out exclusively by a specialist firm or the service centre. Information regarding the handling of batteries For retention of the time settings, the device requires batteries. For the handling of batteries please observe the following: Risk of explosion! Do not throw batteries into a fire. Do not recharge the batteries. · Never open batteries, never solder or weld batteries. The risk of explosions and injuries exists! Regularly check the condition of the batteries. Leaking batteries can cause damage to the device. If you do not intend to use the device for an extended period, remove the batteries. In the event of the batteries leaking acids, wear protective gloves when removing the batteries. Clean the battery compartment and the battery contacts with a dry cloth. · · · · To avoid the risks of fire or injury: · Do not place candles or other open fire sources on the device. · Do not use the device in the vicinity of hot surfaces. · Do not place the device in locations exposed to direct sunlight. If you do, it may overheat and become irreparably damaged. · To prevent heat build up, place the device at a location with adequate ventilation . · Never cover the ventilation openings! · Avoid any additional heat build up, e.g. direct sunlight, heaters, other devices, etc. · Keep children away from the connecting cable and the device. Children frequently underestimate the dangers of electrical devices. · Provide for a safe location for the device. Notice regarding separation from mains-power The STANDBY/ON switch for this device does NOT completely separate it from the mains power source. Additionally, the device consumes power when in standby-mode. To completely separate the device from mains power, the plug MUST be removed from the power socket. -3- · Do not operate the device if it has sustained a fall or is damaged. Arrange for the appliance to be checked and/or repaired by qualified technicians. · Keep batteries away from children. Children can put batteries into their mouths and swallow them. As furniture surfaces may be made of a variety of materials and are treated with many different types of cleaning agents, it cannot be completely ruled out that some substances contain ingredients which may corrode the rubber rests and soften them. If possible place an anti-slip material under the pads of the device. f Telescope aerial g AUX: h Battery compartment j Power cable Audio input -4- Commissioning Unpacking the device · Remove all packaging material. Antenna The swivelling telescope aerial on the device is effective in the FM transmission range. · Completely withdraw and extend the aerial and then adjust it into the position for the best possible reception. The telescope aerial does not function in the MW transmission range. In these ranges, reception is made by the built-in ferrite aerial. · Position the device for the best possible reception. Attention! Do not permit small children to play with plastic packaging. There is a risk of suffocation! Check the items supplied Whilst unpacking, check that all of the following items are available to you: - Compact radio Additional audio device You can connect additional audio devices to the radio, for example, an MP3 player, for playback through the radio. · Connect the stereo jackplug of the audio device with the socket AUX on the rear of the device. Placement · Place the radio on a level and horizontal surface. Inserting the back-up batteries With back-up batteries fitted, the adjusted timings will not be lost in the event of a power failure. For this, you require two 1.5V batteries of the type Micro AAA/R03 (not supplied). 1. Open the flap of the battery compartment on the rear of the radio. 2. Insert the batteries. Make sure the polarities are correct. 3. Replace the flap of the battery compartment. The flap must audibly engage. Power supply · When all of the required connections have been made, insert the plug on the power cable into a wall power socket. The device is now in standby and the time is shown in the display. If the time has not yet been programmed in, it begins with 0:00. In this case, programme in the time as described in the next section. Setting the time 1. In standby, press and hold the button TIME SET. 2. Enter in the hour by repeatedly pressing on the button HOUR. 3. Enter in the minutes by repeatedly pressing on the button MIN. 4. Release the button TIME SET. The time display is now programmed. Note: When the device is separated from mains power the time is not displayed, however, the internal clock continues to run. Note: So that the time is saved in the event of a power failure or withdrawal of the plug, the back-up batteries must be inserted. -5- Utilisation Device on/off switch · Switch the device on by pressing the button STANDBY/ON on the front side of the device. The green operational LED POWER glows. · To switch the device back into the standby mode, press the button STANDBY/ON once again. The green operational LED POWER extinguishes. · To switch the device off completely, remove the plug from the power socket. Setting the alarm time 1. Press and hold the button AL. SET. A bell symbol appears on the display . 2. Enter in the hour by repeatedly pressing on the button HOUR. 3. Enter in the minutes by repeatedly pressing on the button MIN. 4. Release the button AL. SET. The bell symbol extinguishes. The alarm time is now programmed. Alarm with the buzzer (BUZZ) · To programme an alarm call with the buzzer, turn the regulator VOLUME/BUZZ all the way to the left, until you feel that a slight resistance has been overcome. Radio/AUX operation · First of all, switch the device on as described above. · Turn the regulator VOLUME/BUZZ to the right, until you feel that a slight resistance has been overcome. The Radio/AUX operation is now switched on. · For radio operation, use the switch AUX/AM/FM to select either the wave band AM or FM. Alarm with AUX-/Radio operation · Turn the regulator VOLUME/BUZZ all the way to the right, until you feel that a slight resistance has been overcome, and then set the sound level at which you wish to be woken. · Using the switch AUX/AM/FM select the manner in which you wish to be woken. If you wish to be woken by the radio, tune in to a radio station as described under "Radio/AUX operation". In radio operation: To select the radio station frequency To select the radio station frequency, turn the tuning regulator to either the left or the right. The station frequency will be shown in the display. · For playback of an external audio device, use the switch AUX/AM/FM to select the setting AU ...
